So how do you avoid a plumbing headache? At MAS Plumbing, we’ve seen it all and we know what separates the pros from the, let’s just say the ones you should avoid.
The best plumbers have a few things in common:
They’re licensed, bonded, and insured. Confirm the plumber who will actually be doing the work in your home holds a current state or local license and has liability insurance and worker’s compensation. Believe it or not, some companies send plumbers who don’t have a license. It’s not ethical to us, but it’s legal and it happens more often than you think.
They don’t upsell. You see those gimmicks all the time – they offer you a great deal to get a plumber in your house and once they get there the great deal isn’t so great. It turns out they want to sell you everything short of your own water purification plant. If your plumber doesn’t thoroughly explain all of your options and all of the costs involved, you may be in for a headache.
They have amazing reviews. Google, Yelp, BBB…there are so many review options out there it’s easy to spot consistent quality as well as consistent challenges. Do your research. A solid company will have exceptional reviews.
They provide upfront pricing. Any experienced plumbing professional should be able to diagnose the issue and give you a price that doesn’t go up and up and up as the day goes on. Look for a plumber that treats you like family and isn’t just looking to maximize the bill.
Look for red flags!
If you talk to a plumber and one of these red flags pop up, it’s time to talk to a new plumber…
• Asks for payment in advance of the work.
• Only accepts cash.
• Cannot provide a license number or proof of insurance.
• Pressures you to start work immediately.
• Gives vague answers about experience with specific plumbing systems (water heaters, pipe repair, etc.)
